This project sought to improve the existing small, dark kitchen and unheated lean-to conservatory attached to a modest detached family house, incorporating an annexe as part of the house. The annexe was mainly unoccupied, and the unheated conservatory used as a dining area had no connection with the family kitchen.

There was a requirement for an open-plan kitchen/dining/family area, an extra bedroom and a utility. Our approach was to add an extension by demolishing the conservatory and infilling it between the back of the main house and the annexe. The infilled area provided a modern open-plan kitchen, dining room, and family room. The annexe was used for a guest bedroom and utility.

The proposal provided not only a central sitting and entertaining space but also a much-needed area for a family home, like a boot room and utility room. The proposed corner folding doors provided stunning views across the gardens. A flat roof with lanterns brings a light and airy feeling to the kitchen/ dining space.
