The design brief for this project was to transform this bungalow into a modern home with open-plan living spaces, together with internal reconfiguring to make the ground and first floor work better and add a bedroom within the loft space.
Our approach was to add a relatively modest rear extension in a traditional style together with the opening up of the rear walls of the house, creating a generous and stylish open-plan space. The existing garage was converted into bedrooms, and a new first floor formed above the garage was used for the third bedroom. The lean-to structure on the east elevation provided an en-suite to the annexe.
The addition of flint to the front elevation of the bungalow blends well by maintaining the form and character of the locality. The carefully chosen brick for the rear elevation was laid in stretcher bond and matched well with the existing bungalow.
