Saddleback Barn, Gedney Broadgate

The client wanted a link between the main barn conversion and the garages, together with a new family room in the rear courtyard, plus some other minor alterations.

The design proposal provided a link between the dwelling and the garages with an elegant oak-framed porch. This new transitional space/link provided a much-needed entrance hall and boot room, which the existing dwelling was missing. The link added space and security, while the oak-framed porch added style and a wow factor to the front elevation. The dwelling now has a main front entrance rather than a side entrance to the kitchen.

To the rear, a flat roof extension with two lanterns and sliding doors was proposed. This snug room was extended to a large family room with natural lights and made most of the garden. The sliding doors and level threshold bring the outside in and blur the boundaries between the interior and the great outdoors.
