Manor House, North Wootton

This project sought to extend into a small courtyard outside the current kitchen, by demolishing an existing garden wall and creating a new family & garden room.

The ceiling height in the extension was made as high as possible while maintaining eaves just below the adjacent roof.  A generous eaves overhang was provided for shading which also allowed for the fascia around the extension to present elegantly, with the necessary roof insulation hidden from view when placed up to the cavity walls, in order to provide the insulated envelope.

The large rooflight combined with the extensive areas of glazing to the garden fills the room with light and provides views to the beautiful walled garden beyond.  The spacious and well lit extension allowed as much if not more light into the original kitchen areas, where an exposed galvanised steel post supports an original timber beam where the previous external wall of the property was once present.

This extension shows that carefully designed modern extensions can provide beautiful additions to a period property.
