CONSERVATION AREA
 

As well as its normal planning control powers over new building work, the Council has additional powers in conservation areas. Consent from the Council is required for the demolition (including partial demolition) of most buildings and of some other features such as boundary walls, in a conservation area.

The Council has the duty to take extra care in dealing with proposals for new buildings, and extensions to existing ones. This usually means that new work should reflect the traditional building form and details of the area. Calvert Brain & Fraulo Architectural Ltd has dealt with many projects within Conservation Areas and has successfully obtained Conservation Area Consent for a varied range of projects.

Conservation Area consent once granted lasts for three years.
